This two-day, weekend class is an excellent introduction to woodworking and boatbuilding!
Participants work with hand tools and a rudimentary set of actual boat plans of the Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief. All tools and materials needed to create a half-model will be provided. No prior experience with tools or boat plans is required!
Created by boatbuilders as a hands-on design tool, half models capture the graceful shape and flowing lines of form of a vessel, all in scale. With just a few basic woodworking tools and minimal shop space, this process brings precision, artistry, and maritime tradition together in one incredibly satisfying project.
Participants may work independently or bring a friend. Class size is limited to three participants per boat. No individualized boat plans will be used.
